At 14:00 on March 18, the Nancun Toll Station of the Nansha Port Interchange was opened to traffic, providing a direct connection between Nanda Trunk Line and Nansha Port Expressway. This infrastructure removes the traffic bottlenecks between Nancun Wanbo CBD and other regions including Guangzhou's urban areas and the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center (HEMC). This also makes it more convenient to travel to and from such places as Guangzhou South Railway Station and Nansha District, as manifested by a reduction of more than 30 minutes in daily commuting time.
The Nansha Port Interchange is an important project node of the Nanda Trunk Line (from the Guangdong Hospital of Women and Children to the Shixin Road Section). In the double-trumpet shape, the interchange has eight passageways (four upward ones and four downward ones). This design makes the interchange have a high-load traffic capacity and facilitates charge management. On ramps leading to expressways, vehicles can turn around. This traffic design solves the long-standing problem that "Once going onto an expressway, a vehicle can hardly turn around".
As the general construction contractor of the Nanda Trunk Line, the Guangzhou No. 2 Municipal Engineering Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "the No. 2 company") under the Guangzhou Municipal Construction Group Co., Ltd. (GMC for short) has effectively overcome construction problems such as complexity in the connection of multiple professional processes involving civil engineering, electromechanical engineering, housing building, traffic security, lighting, and greening and advanced the construction progress in an orderly manner.
Overhanging the Nansha Port Expressway with heavy traffic, the interchange was built with 60-meter-long prefabricated small box girders that weigh up to 100 tons through crane operations, but the construction task was challenging. To tackle the challenge, relevant heads of the No. 2 company remained on duty 24 hours a day on the construction site to provide instructions, while the project department and constructors worked day and night. The completion of the task accelerated the opening of the Nansha Port Interchange to traffic.
The 30-kilometer-long Nanda Truck Line is of great significance to the development of southern Guangzhou, and it is an important artery for the transverse traffic of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The trunk line has 25 flyovers, including five interchanges. The Guangzhou Municipal Group Co., Ltd. under GMC constructed 13 kilometers of the trunk line, on which there are 11 flyover nodes, including nine completed and six opened to traffic. The section from Ramp I to Ramp B and that of the reconstructed road of Crocpark Guangzhou to Ramp D of Section 0 on the truck line undertaken by the Guangzhou No. 3 Municipal Engineering Group Co., Ltd., have been opened to traffic, with the unaffected parts basically completed. Ramps A, B, and C of Section 3 on the truck line undertaken by the Guangzhou No. 1 Municipal Engineering Group Co., Ltd. were opened to traffic on January 18, and Ramp Bridges D and F were opened on February 28. The main line of Section BT1 and auxiliary lanes undertaken by the No. 2 company was opened on January 18.
