Guangzhou Municipal Construction Group Co., Ltd. (GMC) was established in 1950. It is a large state-owned enterprise in Guangzhou, and the first enterprise group in the South China region to hold both the highest qualification for general contracting of housing construction projects, highest qualification for general contracting of municipal public works, Class A qualification in architectural design and Class A qualification in municipal design. Currently, GMC boasts two qualifications for general contracting at the highest level, 60 first-level qualifications for various types of contracting, 93 first-level qualification of various special contracting, as well as 41 Class A qualifications of various types. Its business encompasses a wide range of areas including housing and municipal infrastructure construction, engineering survey and design, mechanical and electrical installation, decoration, environmental engineering, landscaping, project supervision, building materials trading, real estate development and operation, engineering testing and inspection, and new materials research and development, as well as human resources and financial services, covering the entire spectrum of professional domains within the construction industry and its related supporting industries. In 2023, GMC achieved an annual operating income of 304.6 billion yuan, with a total profit of 4.3 billion yuan. It has been selected for three consecutive years in the Fortune Global 500 list, ranking 380th and 12th in the global engineering and construction industry, establishing its position in the top tier worldwide in this sector.

The GMC has been developed by reforming and reorganized from Guangzhou State-owned Construction Engineering Company, Guangzhou Construction Engineering Bureau and Guangzhou Construction Corporation, and was transformed into a limited company in 1996. In 2008, it was reorganized and merged with Guangzhou Engineering Contractor Group Co., Ltd. and Guangzhou Municipal Group Co., Ltd. to form Guangzhou Municipal Construction Group Co., Ltd. In 2010, Guangzhou Municipal Construction Co., Ltd. was established to receive China Guangzhou International Economic & Technical Cooperation Co., Ltd. as a whole. In 2018, it was transferred to Guangzhou Kingbo Logistics and Trade Group Co., Ltd. free of charge. In 2019, 40 landscaping enterprises affiliated to the Municipal Forestry and Landscaping Bureau were received as a whole, and Guangzhou Design Institute was reorganized. There are 48 high-tech enterprises, 2 research institutes, 7 Grade A design institutes, 5 postdoctoral scientific research workstations, 4 provincial doctoral workstations, 2 postdoctoral innovation practice bases, 1 national technology center, 1 national science and technology reform demonstration enterprise, 1 national engineering sub-center, 28 provincial engineering centers and 15 provincial enterprise technology centers; The GMC boasts remarkable technical strength and has won 6 National Science and Technology Progress Awards (including 5 second prizes and 1 third prize), 1 Second Prize of State Technological Invention Award, 1,181 provincial and ministerial science and technology progress awards.

As the main force of Guangzhou's urban construction, the GMC has undertaken the construction of most of major infrastructure, livelihood projects and landmark projects in various historic periods of Guangzhou. The cumulative completed area is more than 90 million square meters, equivalent to reconstructing 8 old Guangzhou City. The GMC has successively undertaken a number of landmark projects such as Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center, Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center, Pazhou International Convention and Exhibition Center, CITIC Plaza, Canton Tower, Guangzhou International Financial Center (Guangzhou West Tower), Guangzhou Opera House, municipal transportation projects in the core area of Zhujiang New City, as well as Haixinsha Square, the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of Guangzhou Asian Games. In 2020, the GMC undertook the construction of a series of emergency projects such as land leveling for Zhongluotan Purchased and Reserved Land and expansion of Guangzhou Eighth People's Hospital. The Company has completed the construction tasks delivered by superior departments with high efficiency, quality and standard, and was awarded "Advanced Collective in Fighting COVID-19 in National Housing and Urban-Rural Construction System", fully demonstrating the GMC Speed and its corporate responsibility as a state-owned enterprise. In 2021, when a new round of COVID-19 broke out in Guangzhou, GMC, once again, stepped forward and responded the call to fight against the virus: it supported the emergency project for epidemic prevention and isolation in Liwan District by building up a 66-kilometer anti-epidemic defense line in three days, and successively completing the reconstruction and expansion tasks of several emergency projects such as International Health Station, Guangzhou Eighth People's Hospital, Guangzhou Iron & Steel Group Hospital, Baiyun International Convention Center, Dong Fang Hotel and Hotel Canton, making positive contributions to winning the tough battle against COVID-19 and promoting regular epidemic prevention and control. In 2022, the GMC was at the forefront of emergencies, difficulties and risks, and responded to the call of fighting against the COVID-19. It actively supported the construction of emergency projects of epidemic prevention and isolation in various districts of Guangzhou, successively completed the construction tasks of multiple emergency projects such as Guangzhou International Health Station, Panyu International Exhibition and Trade City Makeshift Hospital, Haizhu Zhongdai Square Makeshift Hospital, Qiming School Makeshift Hospital, Baiyun District Emergency Isolation Transfer Point, and Baiyun District Jianggao Emergency Isolation Transfer Point, and repeatedly supported the emergency projects of isolation enclosure in various districts of Guangzhou.
